The latest GP Patient Survey results have been published. 760,000 people responded with their experiences of GP practices from January-April 2023.

Findings

  • 71.3% overall satisfaction (down from 72%)

  • 54% reported good experience of making an appointment (down from 56%)

  • 72% satisfied with the appointment they were offered (same)

  • 50% had an appointment at a time they wanted or sooner (down from 51%)

  • 50% found it easy to get through to the practice by phone (down from 53%)

  • Appointment type received for people last time they tried to make an appointment:

    • 67% face-to-face (up from 46% in 2022)

    • 28% phone (down from 49% in 2022)

    • 1.2% online (down from 2% in 2022)

    • 0.4% home visits (down from 0.5%)

  • 72% satisfied with the appointment offered and accepted (same from 72%)

  • Choice:

    • 33% offered a choice of time or day (up from 31%)

    • 20% offered a choice of type of appointment (down from 22%)

    • 17% offered a choice of place (up from 13%)

    • 7% offered a choice of healthcare professional (same)

    • 41% were offered none of these choices (down from 42%)

  • Experience of last appointment:

    • 85% felt listened to (same)

    • % felt they had enough time (same)

  • 51% avoided making an appointment (down from 55%)

    • 28% found it too difficult (up from 26%)

    • 15% worried about burden on NHS (down from 20%)

    • 5% worried about COVID-19 (down from 12%)
