Update from Broadfield Community Centre

Viv Evans, the Community Centre Development Worker, is excited to share an update since Healthwatch West Sussex collaborated with Broadfield Community Centre to gather insights from those who use and hire it.
Broadfield Community Centre

We started with surveys to gain a better understanding of local community provision, what services are currently provided to support local people and their families’ physical, emotional health and wellbeing and to identify what gaps there might be.

In summary, the findings reported in the Broadfield Community Centre Survey Findings report found that Broadfield Community Centre is well placed and plays a strong role in the delivery of a wide range of activities and services.

The types of activities provided by hirers ranged from health, educational activities, exercise, and specific activities for children and young people and older people. The experience of administration at the Broadfield Community Centre ranged from good, very good to excellent.

Viv says:

I would like to publicly thank Cheryl for her work.

One year on, Viv is reflecting on what has changed and what ‘next steps’ the report triggered.

  • Broadfield Community Centre have engaged the services of a graphic designer to improve the quality of their communication. This will lead to promoting activities with professionalism and more widely.

  • There have been discussions around the youth gap provision and Crawley Community Youth Service (CCYS) have trialled an older-youth session to meet the identified need.

  • The report and survey findings have been distributed to local people and user groups so that they know their voice has been included.

  • There have been frequent conversations with the local police about community safety and anti-social behaviour. This relationship is strong and positive.

  • The Centre has hosted a number of Integrated Partnership Networking and practitioner days to improve health inequalities including: Memory, Wellbeing and Brain Health event, Broadfield Neighbourhood Action Team Engagement Day, Sexual Health and Wellbeing Event, Winter Readiness Event, Stem cell register with German Bone Marrow Donor Center (DKMS), Free Prostate PSA (Prostrate-specific antigen) Screening, Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group and NHS MSK (musculoskeletal) clinics.
