Shout Out! Chest X-Ray Walk in and Wait service
The Chest X-Ray Walk in and Wait service does what it says: If a healthcare professional has referred you for a chest x-ray, you can go to the radiology department at a hospital or clinic, at a time that suits you. You will be seen in the order you arrive to have the X-ray taken. It is as simple as that.
Violet had been referred for a chest x-ray by her GP, who informed that she could use the walk-in service at St Richards hospital in Chichester. Her GP made a virtual referral to the chest x-ray service, there was no need for paperwork and Violet could attend when it was suitable for her.
Violet told Healthwatch West Sussex
When she visited the hospital a couple of days after her GP appointment. She went straight to the x-ray department spoke with the receptionist who asked her a few questions such as name and address. The receptionist located the virtual referral on the system from her GP and informed that the wait was currently about 15-20 minutes. Violet sat and waited to be called. The radiographer called her name, within the timeframe suggested. The x-ray was taken, and she was advised that the GP will be sent the result.
It was so easy, quick, with supportive staff and an efficient service -I had control as the appointment fitted in with my schedule.
