The survey was commissioned and managed by NHS England. Fieldwork was carried out by Picker between November 2022 and February 2023. 61,268 NHS patients with a confirmed primary diagnosis of cancer responded.

Findings

The graphic below provides a good summary of this year's results, with the headlines remaining the same as last year - that experiences of hospital care are broadly positive, but communications and personalised care remain a concern. Particularly following discharge from hospital.

Cancer Referrals

One interesting findings was that 65.4% of people who had contacted their GP practice said that the referral for diagnosis was easy to understand.

Healthwatch England are publishing our latest analysis on people's experiences of cancer referrals later this month - and those findings will highlight the hidden cancer waiting lists, and the importance of getting referral support and tracking of referrals right.
