Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded Good by the CQC for the second time.

Inspectors found at the previous inspection that community inpatient services needed improvement but have now been rated as good due to improvements.

The service has been awarded Outstanding for levels of caring. There are several examples where staff have gone the extra mile in delivering care to patients and they found that staff have a overwhelming sense of pride and level of care they deliver to the service.

Staffing levels were raised as an issue at some locations, and the trust put in a variety of measures to ensure that the high level of care is maintained  along with patient safety. Managers considered the risk of staffing levels routinely across all locations and took appropriate action to reduce risk.

Catherine Campbell, Head of Hospital inspection for the South East, said:

“Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust provide a range of clinical services to a population of 1.3 million people. During this inspection we found that the care delivered in community inpatient services was outstanding. Staff consistently put patients at the centre of everything they did.

“Overall we found that safety had improved and services were delivered in line with the needs of the local population.

“There is still some work to do and we will continue to monitor the service and return in due course to check the progress made in the areas for improvement that have been identified.

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of NHS community health and care services across West Sussex. A full report of the most recent CQC report is here.
